AMR

For AMR we have terms and definitions in 4 topics. The topics are Cellular Networking, Computer Hardware, Computer Technology and Technology.

AMR (Cellular Networking)

Adaptive MultiRate Voice Coder. Proposed for use in GSM and UMTS. Bit rates vary between 12.2 and 4.75 kbps

AMR (Computer Hardware)

Audio Modem Riser and CNR (Communications Network Riser) are slots on motherboards that can accommodate low cost sound cards, network cards, etc. So far there isn't really much available for these slots, and they're not likely to be used much in the future either.

AMR (Computer Technology)

Audio Modem Riser - a small and simple card slot for modem, audio and/or network use. This allows manufacturers to create cheap cards. Most recent mainboards have a AMR, most of them never use them.

AMR (Technology)

[Abbreviation for "Audio Modem Riser"] An Intel specification for analog I/O (Input/Output) functions on motherboards. An AMR card removes analog I/O functions from the motherboard, relegating them to a plug-in "riser card" (a.k.a. a "daughter board"). By doing this, motherboard manufacturing is not restrained by the FCC and International Telecom certification processes which can often get bogged down in red tape.
