Abusive Relationship (Female Health)

Interpersonal violence (now dubbed IPV) occurs in the context of many different types of relationships and takes many forms. It can happen within marriages, between parents and children, siblings, roommates, dating couples and those in lesbian and gay relationships, as well as abuse of elders by family members. However, men are the abusers in the overwhelming majority of domestic violence incidents. In an abusive relationship, the abuser may use a number of tactics other than physical violence in order to maintain power and control over his or her victim. There are three categories of abuse: physical, sexual and psychological.
