Acquisition Fee

For Acquisition Fee we have terms and definitions in 4 topics. The topics are Auto Lease, Auto Leasing, Automotive and Refinance.

Acquisition Fee (Auto Lease)

A charge included in most lease transactions that either is paid up front or is included in the gross capitalized cost; may be called a bank fee, an administrative fee, or an assignment fee. This fee usually covers a variety of administrative or insurance costs. These may include the costs of obtaining a credit report, verifying insurance coverage, checking the accuracy and completeness of the lease documentation, entering the lease in data processing and accounting systems, and purchasing insurance for or reserving funds for residual-value losses, gap-coverage losses, and other lease losses. Without an acquisition fee, lessors have to charge higher rental charges.

Acquisition Fee (Auto Leasing)

A fee charged by the leasing company, usually $250 - $500 and is sometimes amortized in the monthly payment. Sometimes you pay the fee up front at inception. It's pretty hard to negotiate out either the acquisition fee or termination fee. Don't ever sign a lease that has both. Here's why this fee is such a joke. They claim it's a necessary fee to process the lease paperwork. But think about this

Acquisition Fee (Automotive)

A fee charged by the leasing company to buy the vehicle for the lessee and setup the lease. Also called the initiation fee, this typically runs about $450.

Acquisition Fee (Refinance)

A fee charged by a dealer to begin a lease. Also known as a bank fee if the lessor is a bank, or an initiation fee. Acquisition fees start at about $300 and are seldom negotiable.
