Acupuncture (Acupuncture)

The process of applying tiny needles to the various acupuncture points on the body stimulates the nervous system to release specific chemicals in the brain. The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body's natural healing abilities and in promoting physical and emotional well being.

Acupuncture (Alternative Health)

Acupuncture is a 5,000 year-old medical practice which alleviates pain and increases immune response by balancing the flow of vital life energy throughout the body. It is a system of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning by inserting very fine needles at precise acupuncture points. This classical Chinese healing practice balances the flow of the body's energy through channels called meridians. When these meridians become obstructed, giving rise to symptoms of pain and illness, the insertion of needles restores health by balancing the flow of energy. Acupuncture is used to relieve symptoms of numerous conditions as well as to promote general health and well being.

Acupuncture (Female Health)

A traditional Chinese method of pain relief in which a medically qualified acupuncturist places needles in certain sites. Researchers believe that the needles stimulate deep sensory nerves that tell the brain to release natural painkillers (endorphins). Acupressure is similar to acupuncture, but pressure is applied to the acupuncture sites instead of using needles.

Acupuncture (Fitness)

A practice, chiefly in Chinese medicine, of attempting to cure illness or relieve pain by puncturing specific areas of the skin with needles.

Acupuncture (Holistic Health)

Acupuncture is a therapy that uses needles to manipulate the meridians, which are the pathways in our bodies where energy or “chi” flows. It is believed that when this energy is blocked or the flow is interrupted we develop symptoms of pain or illness. The needles are extremely thin and remain in place 8 – 20 minutes. The needles may be heated at the ends or the needles may be twisted to create a vibrating energy, or a very low-level electrical impulse may be applied. Your acupuncturist should be professionally trained and certified.

Acupuncture (Massage)

Acupuncture is an ancient oriental healing technique based on the Taoist philosophy of balancing energy meridians within the body, thus allowing the body to heal itself. Fine needles are painlessly inserted at key points corresponding to body organs to relieve pain and cure disease and dysfunction. Related techniques include the use of low voltage, electric current (electro acupuncture) or massage at key points (acupressure).

Acupuncture (Therapy)

Two or more fine needles are inserted through the skin and left in position briefly, sometimes with manual or electrical stimulation. This modifies the way pain signals are received by stimulating the nerves in skin and muscle, increasing the body's release of natural painkillers - endorphin and serotonin - in the pain pathways of both the spinal cord and the brain.
