A rare endocrine disease that results from the underproduction of steroid hormones by the adrenal glands. Symptoms include weakness, low blood pressure, anaemia, low blood sugar and electrolyte abnormalities. Addison's disease has several causes, including autoimmune destruction of the adrenal glands by antibodies, as in the Autoimmune Polyglandular Syndrome where it may be linked to type 1A diabetes.
