Advance Directives (Female Health)

A statement about a person's future wishes about treatment in the event that he or she is unable to make competent decisions. Examples include living wills, health care proxies, do-not-resuscitate (DNR) orders and durable powers of attorney for health care.


Advance Directives (Health)

Legal documents, such as living wills and durable powers of attorney for healthcare decisions, stating a patient's medical preferences in the event the patient should become incapable of voicing his/her opinion.

Legal documents that tell the doctor and family what a person wants for future medical care, including whether to start or when to stop life-sustaining treatment.


Advance Directives (Nervous System Disorders)

Documents (such as a Living Will) completed and signed by a person who is legally competent to explain his/her wishes for medical care should he/she become unable to make those decisions at a later time.


Advance Directives (Nursing Home Abuse)

Instructions written ahead of time regarding how a person wants his or health care administered in the event that the person is unable to make decisions at the time health care is needed. Also called a "Living Will."


Advance Directives (Surgery)

Legal documents stating a patient's medical preferences in the event the patient should become incapable of voicing his/her opinion. (See also durable power of attorney and living will.)
