Air Dam

For Air Dam we have terms and definitions in 7 topics. The topics are Auto Enthusiast, Automotive, Car Racing, Import Cars, NASCAR Racing, Powerboating and Remote Control Cars.

Air Dam (Auto Enthusiast)

A front spoiler intended to divert air from traveling underneath the car. Air dams can improve aerodynamics, reduce lift, and increase the airflow through the front radiator.

Air Dam (Automotive)

A front spoiler mounted beneath the bumper and shaped to reduce the airflow under the car. Air dams can increase the airflow to radiators, reduce aerodynamic drag, and/or reduce lift.

Air Dam (Car Racing)

The piece of the cars body just below the front grill extending down to within inches of the track surface. The air damn acts to direct fast moving air at the front of the car to improve handling by helping to create down force at the front of the car.

Air Dam (Import Cars)

1. A panel across a race car's front end, designed to reduce the air pressure beneath the vehicle for a better ground effect. 2. Panels around the radiator to ensure that all air passes through, not around, the radiator.

Air Dam (NASCAR Racing)

An extension on the front bumper that blocks air as it hits the front of the car. It keeps too much of the air from flowing under the vehicle and reducing its speed. It plays a big role in the aerodynamics of a car, keeping the front end stable.

Air Dam (Powerboating)

A device in the tunnel beneath the bow or the leading edge of a three-point hydroplane that creates turbulence under the boat, reducing lift.

Air Dam (Remote Control Cars)

An extension of the front bumper that blocks, or dams, too much air from getting under the car and producing lift. Most R/C bodies for Touring Cars have air dams built in.
