Albedo

For Albedo we have terms and definitions in 11 topics. The topics are Atmospheric Chemistry, Climate, Climatology, Forestry, Global Warming, Oceanography, Physical Geography, Planetary Science, Satellite Meteorology, Science and Weather.

Albedo (Atmospheric Chemistry)

Refers to reflection power or the portion of solar radiation that reaches a body (earth) surface and is immediately reflected back into the atmosphere. The uncertainty in the reflective power of clouds unfortunately increases the complexity of determining clouds' effects on modeling global warming. [New Scientist; v141; 16; 1994.] [Sky Telescope; v85; 84; 1993.]

Albedo (Climate)

The fraction of the total solar radiation incident on a body that is reflected by it.

Albedo (Climatology)

The fraction of radiation which reflects off a body

Albedo (Forestry)

The measure of the solar reflectivity of a surface.

See more Forestry Terms ...

Albedo (Global Warming)

The fraction of incident light or electromagnetic radiation that is reflected by a surface or body. See planetary albedo.

Albedo (Oceanography)

The ratio between the amount of light a body reflects or scatters and the total amount of light that falls on the body. E.g. an albedo of 90% means 90% of the light is reflected, only 10% is absorbed.

Albedo (Physical Geography)

Is the reflectivity of a surface.

Albedo (Planetary Science)

The brightness of an object or surface; it is the percentage of incoming radiation (light) that the object or surface reflects.

Albedo (Satellite Meteorology)

The percentage of light reflected by an object when it is illuminated.

Albedo (Science)

A measure of the extent to which a surface reflects incident light.

See more Science Terms ...

Albedo (Weather)

The ratio of the amount of radiation reflected from an object's surface compared to the amount that strikes it. This varies according to the texture, color, and expanse of the object's surface and is reported in percentage. Surfaces with high albedo include sand and snow, while low albedo rates include forests and freshly turned earth.
