For Algorithm we have terms and definitions in 20 topics. The topics are Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, Cad, Climatology, Computer Technology, DTV, Digital Imaging, Etymology, Health Informatics, Import Cars, MP3, Mind, Music Technology, Photography, Prostate Cancer, Science, Search Engine Optimization, Technology, Unicode and Weather.

Algorithm (Artificial Intelligence)

An algorithm is a set of instructions that explain how to solve a problem. It is usually first stated in English and arithmetic, and from this, a programmer can translate it into executable code (that is, code to be run on a computer).

Algorithm (Bioinformatics)

A series of steps defining a procedure or formula for solving a problem, that can be coded into a programming language and executed. Bioinformatics algorithms typically are used to process, store, analyze, visualize and make predictions from biological data.

Algorithm (Cad)

A computational method for solving problems. Much like a recipe
in cooking, or a plan of attack in the military. Developing the algorithm in
machining is the preplanning process that creates the orderly procedure for
machining processes to occur.

Algorithm (Climatology)

A computer program (or set of programs) which is designed to systematically solve a certain kind of problem. WSR-88D radars (NEXRAD) employ algorithms to analyze radar data and automatically determine storm motion, probability of hail, VIL, accumulated rainfall, and several other parameters.

Algorithm (Computer Technology)

A step by step method of accomplishing a task. See Bubble Sort for an example.

Algorithm (DTV)

A formula or set of steps used to simplify, modify, or predict data. Complex algorithms are used to selectively reduce (compress) the high digital audio and video data rates. Algorithms are formulated to selectively reduce the data rate without affecting picture quality.

Algorithm (Digital Imaging)

A set of mathematical rules for solving a problem in a step-by-step process with a specific beginning and end.

Algorithm (Etymology)

This term, which means "rules for computing" in English, comes from al-Khowarizmi (Try saying it fast), an Arab mathematician living around A.D. 825 who completed the earliest known work in arithmetic using Arabic numerals. He was the first to establish rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing with the new Arabic numerals.

Algorithm (Health Informatics)

Algorithm (Import Cars)

[1] A formula or set of steps for solving a particular problem. [2] A systematic sequence of defined processes and operations required to ensure the solution of a problem

Algorithm (MP3)

A mathematical formula or function used to encode or decode MP3 audio. More generically it can be defined as a set of rules.

Algorithm (Mind)

A recipe outlining the steps in a procedure for solving a problem; often used to describe key methods used in a computer program.

Algorithm (Music Technology)

Step by step solution to a mathematical problem. In software, a "routine" designed to realise some specific task.

Algorithm (Photography)

The specific process in a computer program used to solve a particular program.

Algorithm (Prostate Cancer)

Procedure or formula for solving a problem; for a set of computer programs that provide algorithms relating to prostate cancer, see the software section of www.pcri.org

Algorithm (Science)

A procedure for obtaining a desired result, generally applied to mathematical procedures.

Algorithm (Search Engine Optimization)

The method a search engine or directory uses to match the keywords in a query with the content of each web page, so that the web pages found can be ordered suitably in the query results. Each search engine or directory is likely to use a different algorithm, and to change or improve its algorithm from time to time.

Algorithm (Technology)

A step by step method of accomplishing a task. For instance, a sorting algorithm may be like this: 1) Progress down your list from the top; 2)When you encounter something that is less than the last item swap the two; 3) Repeat 1-2 until you reach the end of your list. This is commonly known as Bubble Sort, as it seems to bubble items to the top of the list.

Algorithm (Unicode)

A term used in a broad sense in the Unicode Standard, to mean the logical description of a process used to achieve a specified result. This does not require the actual procedure described in the algorithm to be followed; any implementation is conformant as long as the results are the same.

Algorithm (Weather)

A computer program (or set of programs) which is designed to systematically solve a certain kind of problem. WSR-88D radars (NEXRAD) employ algorithms to analyze radar data and automatically determine storm motion, probability of hail, VIL, accumulated rainfall, and several other parameters.
