A requirement initially passed in the 1993 Washington Health Services Act provides access to different kinds of health-care providers licensed or certified by the state. The requirement, which went into effect in 1996, applies to state-regulated insurance contracts, but limited to conditions that are covered in the benefit package of Basic Health. The law was subsequently known as the "Complementary and Alternative Providers" or "Licensed-Provider" statute.
