Amendment (Advocacy)

A proposal made by a member of Congress to alter the language, provisions or stipulations in a bill, resolution, amendment, motion, treaty or another amendment. An amendment is usually printed, debated and voted upon in the same manner as a bill. See also:Bills

Amendment (Agriculture)

An alteration or addition to soil to correct a problem.


Amendment (Commercial Real Estate)

A document negotiated after the original lease is in affect, changing or adding items to the original lease. This document is to be attached to the signed original lease and now becomes part of the lease. Items addressed in an amendment supersede the item being replaced in the original lease document.


Amendment (Congressional)

A proposal of a member of Congress to alter the language, provisions or stipulations in a bill, resolution, amendment, motion, treaty or in another amendment. An amendment is usually printed, debated and voted upon in the same manner as a bill.


Amendment (Environment)

A change or addition to an existing law or rule.


Amendment (Gardening)

Usually referring to some form of organic material being added to the soil for the purpose of improvement.


Amendment (Insurance)

An amendment to an insurance policy changes the benefits, coverage, terms, or conditions.


Amendment (Legal, Mesothelioma)

A change to the plaintiff's pleading or the defendant's response. All amendments are filed with the court and given to the opposing side.


Amendment (Legislative Assembly)

An alteration made or proposed to be made to a measure. Measures may be amended more than once. (See also "gut and stuff")


Amendment (Parliamentary Procedure)

(amendement) - An alteration proposed to a motion, a stage or clause of a bill, or to a committee report. It may attempt to present an improved formulation of the proposition under consideration or to provide an alternative to it.


Amendment (Political)

A change in a document made by adding, substituting or omitting a certain part. The U.S. constitution has 26 amendments, adopted after the original ratification of the constitution. Amendment can also
refer to a change in a bill while it is being considered in a legislature.


Amendment (Real Estate)

A change, either to correct an error or to alter a part of an agreement without changing the principal idea or essence.
