The topics are Audio Recording, Car Audio, Cinematography, E-Learning, Ear Surgery, Earthquake, Film Production, Gymnastics, Home Audio, Import Cars, International Economics, MRI, Multiple Sclerosis, Music Technology, Robotics, Satellite Meteorology, Trigonometry, Tsunami, Vibration and Watches.

Amplitude (Audio Recording)

Amplitude (think altitude!) is the height of a waveform above or below the zero line.

Amplitude (Car Audio)

The level or strength of a signal. (e.g., A high-powered amplifier will raise the amplitude of your deck’s signal to over 50 volts.)

Amplitude (Cinematography)

The strength of an electronic signal as measure by its waveform height. (Sound)

Amplitude (E-Learning)

The amount of variety in a signal. Commonly thought of as the height of a wave.

Amplitude (Ear Surgery)

The height of a single sound wave as seen on an ocsilliscope. It is associated with the loudness of a sound.

Amplitude (Earthquake)

The amplitude of a seismic wave is the amount the ground moves as the wave passes by. (As an illustration, the amplitude of an ocean wave is one-half the distance between the peak and trough of the wave. The amplitude of a seismic wave can be measured from the signal recorded on a seismogram.) (Noson, et.al., 1988)
The maximum height of a wave crest of depth of a trough. (USGS National Earthquake Information Center, 1999)

Amplitude (Film Production)

The strength of an electronic signal as measure by its waveform height. (Sound)

Amplitude (Gymnastics)

The height or degree of execution of a movement. In general, the higher the salto or the more breathtaking the movement, the better the amplitude and the score.

Amplitude (Home Audio)

The level or strength of a signal as measured by the height of its waveform. Electronic waveforms can be displayed and measured on an oscilloscope in volts or decibels.

Amplitude (Import Cars)

[1] The difference between the highest and lowest voltage displayed [2] The magnitude of an electrical signal above or below some reference, usually measured in voltage above or below "0"

Amplitude (International Economics)

The extent of the up and down movements of a fluctuating economic variable; that is, the difference between the highest and lowest values of the variable. See destabilizing speculation.

Amplitude (MRI)

The signal height. The greater the amplitude of the signal, the larger the number of protons in the image and the brighter it will appear.

Amplitude (Multiple Sclerosis)

Magnitude of an action potential.

Amplitude (Music Technology)

the level of a signal.

Amplitude (Robotics)

How big a wave is. In water waves, the amplitude would be the height of the wave For example, a tidal wave has a large amplitude while the circular waves from a pebble thrown in a lake have a small amplitude. Click the blackboard in the waves lab for a drawing showing amplitude.

Amplitude (Satellite Meteorology)

Half the height from the crest to the trough of the wave.

Amplitude (Trigonometry)

The vertical stretch of a function.

Amplitude (Tsunami)

The rise above or drop below the ambient water level as read on a tide gage.

Amplitude (Vibration)

Amplitude is the maximum value of a sinusoidal quantity (i.e. acceleration, displacement).

Amplitude (Watches)

Sometimes used to describe the frequency of a mechanical movement, however seems more often used to describe the angle of oscillation of the balance wheel either side of its neutral position. This would therefore be measured in degrees, for example 'an amplitude of 270 degrees'.
