Anaerobic Respiration

For Anaerobic Respiration we have terms and definitions in 3 topics. The topics are Atmospheric Chemistry, Huntingtons Disease and Microbiology.

Anaerobic Respiration (Atmospheric Chemistry)

Living or acting in the absence of oxygen. Cellular respiration in the absence of oxygen. [Microbiology; v140; 2153-2158; 1994.] [Journal of Bacteriology; v176; 5086-5092;1994.]

Anaerobic Respiration (Huntingtons Disease)

Smaller amounts of ATP are released when glucose is broken down in the absence of oxygen. Most organisms do fermentation as their primary method of ATP generation when oxygen is not present.

Anaerobic Respiration (Microbiology)

Respiration under anaerobic conditions. The terminal electron acceptor, instead of oxygen in the case of regular respiration, can be: CO2, FE2+, fumarate, nitrate, nitrite, nitrous oxide, sulphur, sulphate, etc. Note that anaerobic respiration still uses electron transport chain to dump the electron while fermentation does not.
