Anaphylaxis (Female Health)

A rare but potentially fatal condition in which several different parts of the body experience food-allergic reactions simultaneously, causing hives, swelling of the throat and difficulty breathing. It is the most severe allergic reaction to an allergen and requires immediate medical attention when it occurs.


Anaphylaxis (HIV and AIDs)

A severe allergic reaction, usually to a drug. Symptoms include difficulty breathing, low blood pressure, and rash, sometimes with blisters or hives. Persons experiencing anaphylaxis require immediate medical attention (injection with epinephrine) as this condition is potentially life-threatening.

Severe, life-threatening allergic reaction, such as that caused by an insect sting or exposure to a drug, like penicillin or antitetanus (horse) serum, or that caused by certain foods, like peanuts or shellfish; anaphylactic shock

Anaphylaxis (Immunization)

An immediate and severe allergic reaction to a substance (e.g. food or drugs). Symptoms of anaphylaxis include breathing difficulties, loss of consciousness and a drop in blood pressure. This condition can be fatal and requires immediate medical attention.


Anaphylaxis (Microbiology)

Hypersensitivity produced by exposure to further doses of the same protein, usually when exposure is within less than 2 weeks (bee stings, echinococcosis).
