Antigen (Allergy and Asthma)

A substance that can trigger an immune response causing the production of antibodies as part of the body's defense against infection and disease.

Antigen (Anthromorphemics)

A substance that stimulates the production or mobilization of antibodies. An antigen can be a foreign protein, toxin, bacteria, or other substance.

Antigen (Anthropology)

A substance that stimulates the production or mobilization of antibodies. An antigen can be a foreign protein, toxin, bacteria, or other substance.

Antigen (Beauty)

A harmful invader of the immune system. A substance that can trigger an immune response, resulting in the production of antibodies as part of the body's immune system.

Antigen (Bioinformatics)

Any foreign molecule that stimulates an immune response in a vertebrate organism. Many antigens are proteins such as the surface proteins of foreign organisms.

Antigen (Biotechnology)

A molecule, usually a protein or polysaccharide (sugar), that induces the production of specific antibodies against itself. Molecules on the surfaces of viruses and bacteria are antigens.

Antigen (Bladder Cancer)

Usually a protein or carbohydrate substance capable of stimulating an immune response

Antigen (Blood Bank)

A substance that is recognized by the body as being foreign, and as such can trigger an immune response. In blood, antigens are usually, but not exclusively, found on the blood cell surface.

Antigen (Blood and Marrow Transplant)

Substance that evokes a response from the body's immune system, resulting in the production of antibodies or other defensive action by white blood cells.

Antigen (Breast Cancer)

Chemical substance that causes the body's immune system to react; reaction often involves production of antibodies.

Antigen (Cancer)

A substance that causes the immune system to make a specific immune response.

See more Cancer Terms ...

Antigen (Dairy Production)

Any foreign body that, once in the body, stimulates the production of an antibody. The coat of many bacteria and the structure of many toxin molecules are antigens.

Antigen (Disease)

A protein "recognized" by the body as being foreign; it results in the production of specific antibodies directed against it.

See more Disease Terms ...

Antigen (Female Health)

Any substance that antagonizes or stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies.

Antigen (Food)

A foreign substance (almost always a protein) that, when introduced into the body, stimulates an immune response.

See more Food Terms ...

Antigen (Food and Health)

A foreign substance (almost always a protein) that, when introduced into the body, stimulates an immune response.

Antigen (HIV and AIDs)

A portion of a foreign substance or organism against which an antibody is designed by B cells. Antigens are neutralized by antibodies.

Antigen (Health)

Substance that can trigger an immune response, resulting in production of an antibody as part of the body's defense against infection and disease; allergen

Antigen (Health and Beauty)

A harmful invader of the immune system. A substance that can trigger an immune response, resulting in the production of antibodies as part of the body's immune system.

Antigen (Hepatitis B)

A protein on the surface of a virus, bacteria or cell that can stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies as a defense mechanism.

Antigen (Horse Health)

A substance capable of inducing a specific immune response in the body, by binding to a specific antibody; can be a property of bacteria, viruses, other foreign proteins, or even host tissue cells.

Antigen (Immunization)

Any foreign material that is specifically bound by specific antibody or specific lymphocytes; also used loosely to describe materials used for immunization. Antigens may also be immunogens if they are able to trigger an immune response, or haptens if not.

Antigen (Immunology Lab)

Any substance (usually a protein or carbohydrate) that induces the production of antibodies by immune cells. Usually is a substance that is "foreign" to the host.

Antigen (Lymphoma)

A substance that is recognized by the immune system as foreign to the body.

See more Lymphoma Terms ...

Antigen (Microbiology)

Any foreign substance, such as a virus, bacterium, or protein that elicits an immune response by stimulating the production of antibodies.

Antigen (Multiple Sclerosis)

Any substance that triggers the immune system to produce an antibody; generally refers to infectious or toxic substances. See Antibody.

Antigen (Naturopathic)

A substance, usually a protein, that induces the formation of defending antibodies. Example: bacterial toxins, Juniper pollen (in allergies). Auto-immune disorders can occur when antibodies are formed against normal proteins created within the body.

Antigen (Nutrition)

Any substance not normally present in the body that stimulates the body to produce antibodies.

Antigen (Oncology)

A substance, such as a bacteria, virus or toxin, that triggers a response by the immune system, the human body's defense mechanism. Cancer may have antigens the immune system may attack.

See more Oncology Terms ...

Antigen (Organ Transplant)

A foreign substance that can trigger an immune response, resulting in production of an antibody as a part of the body's defense.

Antigen (Prostate Cancer)

"foreign" material introduced into the body (a virus or bacterium, for example) or other material which the immune system considers to be "foreign" because it is not part of the body's normal biology (e.g., prostate cancer cells); a substance that elicits a cellular-level immune response or causes the formation of an antibody

Antigen (Science)

A molecule foreign to the body

See more Science Terms ...

Antigen (Sexually Transmitted Diseases)

A germ (like a virus or bacteria) that gets inside the body. It doesn't belong inside the body and can make someone sick if it is not killed. To the body it is an enemy or invader. The germs that cause STDs, including HIV, are ANTIGENS.

Antigen (Veterinary)

A foreign substance that stimulates an immune response.
