Aqueduct (Construction)

A bridge or channel for conveying water, usually over long distances


Aqueduct (Global History)

A conduit, either elevated or under ground, using gravity to carry water from a source to a location-usually a city-that needed it. The Romans built many aqueducts in a period of substantial urbanization. (p. 156)


Aqueduct (Roman Achitecture)

An engineering structure designed to bring huge quantities of pure water into the city. The u-shaped stone channel that carries the water is at the top of the arcuated structure that is used to span valleys between the source and the city.


Aqueduct (Sanitation)

A conduit, usually of considerable size, used to convey water. The conduit may consist of one or more of the following: canal, pipeline, flume, tunnel, siphon, so-called inverted siphon, or raised channel for carrying water.


Aqueduct (Water Science)

A pipe, conduit, or channel designed to transport water from a remote source, usually by gravity.
