Array (Biology)

A set of samples, numbers or symbols, e.g. experimental data, usually arranged in a particular order.

Array (Computer Hardware)

An array of disk drives combines the storage space on the disk drives into a single segment of contiguous storage space. MegaRAID can group disk drives on one or more SCSI channels into an array. A hot spare drive does not participate in an array.

Array (Computer Technology)

This is an abbreviation for a group of hard drives functioning as a RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Drives).

Array (Electric Power)

Any number of photovoltaic modules connected together to provide a single electrical output. Arrays are often designed to produce significant amounts of electricity.

Array (Java)

A collection of data items, all of the same type, in which each item's position is uniquely designated by an integer.

Array (Newton)

A sequence of numerically indexed slots that contain objects. The first element is indexed by zero. Like other nonimmediate objects, an array can have a user-specified class, and can have its length changed dynamically. Also referred to as Array Elements. Source: NPG

Array (RAID Drive Recovery)

Two or more disks grouped together to appear as a single disk to the host system.

Array (Scanner)

An ordered collection of elements of the same type. Represented by single line of sensors in a CCD chip are called a linear array. A digital image is stored as a 2-dimensional data array containing pixels addressable by x,y (or row, column) coordinates.

Array (Solar Energy)

Any number of photovoltaic modules connected together to provide a single electrical output. Arrays are often designed to produce significant amounts of electricity.

Array (Storage Media)

Two or more hard disks that read and write the same data. In a RAID system, the operating system treats the array as if it were a single hard disk.

Array (Technology)

This is an abbreviation for a group of hard drives functioning as a RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Drives).
