Artificial Selection

For Artificial Selection we have terms and definitions in 3 topics. The topics are Evolution, Oceanography and Science.

Artificial Selection (Evolution)

The process by which humans breed animals and cultivate crops to ensure that future generations have specific desirable characteristics. In artificial selection, breeders select the most desirable variants in a plant or animal population and selectively breed them with other desirable individuals. The forms of most domesticated and agricultural species have been produced by artificial selection; it is also an important experimental technique for studying evolution.

Artificial Selection (Oceanography)

Artificial selection occurs when humans determine which individuals should survive and breed - e.g. selective breeding of animals or plants for agriculture. This is in contrast to natural selection, which is the increased survival of individuals with certain genes, due to natural control, for instance by diseases or predators.

Artificial Selection (Science)

Procedure in which humans choose organisms to breed that have desirable characteristics
