Ashram (Classic Yoga)

A yoga school or center. A community of like-minded individuals. Any spiritual community or settlement. The residents of an ashram typically live under either a cooperative economy, or else are supported by donations from the larger community outside the ashram. In many respects, an ashram is like a modern monastic community.


Ashram (Hippy)

A monastery where monks practice yoga.

Ashram (New Age)

  1. A Masters group. In the Spiritual hierarchy there are 49 Ashram's, seven major and forty two subsidiaries, each headed by a master of wisdom.
  2. Heritage, retreat or place of quiet and solitude, often a forest, where Hindu sage lives alone or with his disciples. In higher realms a place where a master instructs his students and charges.
