Attitude (Ballet)

A pose in which the dancer stands on one leg, with the other leg raised behind, to side or in front of the body with the knee bent. See also: Arabesque.

Attitude (Car Design)

When a vehicle has a noticeable demeanor and is said to be aggressive, playful, intimidating etc. Can also describe the vehicles overall relationship to the ground.


Attitude (Explosives)

The position or orientation of an aircraft, spacecraft, munition, device, etc., either in motion or at rest, as determined by the relationship between its axes and some reference line or plane such as the horizon.


Attitude (Forestry)

A manner of acting, feeling, or thinking that shows one's disposition, opinion, etc.

Attitude (Learning)

A persisting feeling or emotion of a person that influences choice of action and response to stimulus. Defined as a disposition or tendency to respond positively or negatively towards a certain thing (idea, object, person, situation). They encompass, or are closely related to, our opinions and beliefs and are based upon our experiences. Training that produces tangible results starts by changing behavior...which ultimately changes attitudes. Training often uses the term attitude to identify the psychological term "affective domain."

Attitude (Non-Profit Marketing)

What people feel about your organization’s product--usually the result of an experience - an ad, imagery, using the product, word of mouth or all of the above.


Attitude (Poetry)

A speaker's, author's, or character's disposition toward or opinion of a subject. For example, Hamlet's attitude toward Gertrude is a mixture of affection and revulsion, changing from one to the other within a single scene. Jane Austen's attitude toward Mr. Bennet in Pride and Prejudice combines respect for his wit and intelligence with disapproval of his failure to take sufficient responsibility for the rearing of all of his daughters.

Attitude (Public Speaking)

A frame of mind in favor of or opposed to a person, policy, belief, institution, topic, etc.


Attitude (Sanitation)

Either the orientation in space of a geologic structural feature or the structural element position of a geologic bed, stratum, fracture, or surface relative to the horizontal.
