Autosomal Recessive (Colon Cancer)

A pattern of inheritance in which the transmission of a trait on an autosome (not the X or Y sex chromosomes) results in a carrier state if the individual is heterozygous for the trait and in an affected state if the individual is homozygous. Only when both parents are carriers is there a risk (25%) for an affected child. There is usually no family history of the disorder. Cystic fibrosis and hemochromatosis are well-known autosomal recessive conditions.


Autosomal Recessive (Medical)

A term used to describe a gene on any chromosome other than the sex chromosomes that produces its effect only when two copies of it are present; can also describe the effect of the gene itself
