Availability (Business Intelligence)

User access to applications and/or data stores that reside and execute on computing systems accessing information that resides in files and databases supported by an organizations various operating environments.


Availability (Electric Power)

Describes the reliability of power plants. It refers to the number of hours the turbines are available to produce power divided by the total hours in a year.


Availability (Fish)

1. The fraction of a fish population which lives in regions where it is susceptible to fishing during a given fishing season . This fraction receives recruits from or becomes mingled with the non-available part of the stock at other seasons, or in other years. (Any more or less completely isolated segment of the population is best treated as a separate stock.) 2. Catch per unit of effort.

Availability (GPS)

The number of hours per day that a particular location has sufficient satellites (above the specified elevation angle, and perhaps less than some specified PDOP value) to make a GPS position determination possible.

Availability (Information Security)

A condition in which information or processes are reasonably accessible and used by an authorised party including timely and critical operations.


Availability (Internet Metrics)

The ability of a component or service to perform its required function at a stated instant or over a stated period of time. It is usually expressed as the availability ratio, i.e., the proportion of time that the service is actually available for use by the customers within the agreed service hours.


Availability (Security Testing)

Assuring information and communications services will be ready for use when expected.


Availability (Solar Energy)

The quality or condition of a photovoltaic system being available to provide power to a load. Usually measured in hours per year. One minus availability equals downtime.


Availability (Technology)

This is a measure of how much time a network or a connection is running. Generally, the equation is: Time Running / Time Measured (time running divided by time measured). Thus, if you measured something for 20 minutes, and it was only up for 19 of them, you'd have 95% availability.
