Band (Cigar)

Paper placed around the cigar, usually near the head, originally used to protect white gloves from tobacco stains. Merchants quickly seized the idea and began using it as a place to put their brand name. Allowing them to differentiate their cigars from their competitors.

Band (Import Cars)

1. A hydraulically controlled device installed in an automatic transmission around a clutch drum, used to stop or permit drum turning. 2. A manual or hydraulic device installed around a drum to provide a braking action.

A pattern of light and dark regions by Giemsa staining that can serve as landmarks on chromosomes.


Band (Paper)

(1) A strip of paper, printed or unprinted, that wraps around loose sheets (in lieu of binding with a cover) or assembled pieces. (2) The operation of putting a paper band around loose sheets or assembled pieces. (3) Metal straps wrapped around skids of cartons or materials wrapped in waterproof paper, to secure the contents to the skid for shipment.
