Behaviorism (Addiction)

A branch of psychology that bases its observations and conclusions on definable and measurable behavior and on experimental methods, rather than on concept of "mind."

Behaviorism (Education, Gifted Education)

A deterministic, stimulus-response theory of psychology which forms the basis for behavior modification and many common teaching methods. Behaviorism is concerned only with observable behavior, not with internal processes, meanings, emotions, attitudes, beliefs or values. Accounts of these things are treated as merely “verbal behavior.” In behaviorist teaching strategies, the teacher, not the student, establishes the goals, directs and controls the environment, and makes assessments. Behaviorism (Learning)

Belief that learning results in a change in the learner's behavior. The focus of behaviorists is on the outputs of the learning process. The study of learning only through the examination and analysis of objectively observable and quantifiable behavioral events, in contrast with subjective mental states.

A recent version of materialism; mental concepts are really statements of dispositions to behave in particular ways; mental concepts can be translated into concepts referring to observable behavior
