In a reinforced plastic, the continuous phase which holds together the reinforcement. NOTE: During fabrication, the binder which may be either thermoplastic or thermoset, usually undergoes a change in state.


Binder (Paint)

1. A component of paint that "binds" the pigment particles into a uniform, continuous paint film, and makes the paint adhere to the surface. The nature and amount of binder helps determine most of the paint's performance properties - washability, toughness, adhesion, color retention, and durability. 2. In caulk, a component that "binds" the pigment particles into a homogeneous compound and makes the caulk adhere to the surface. The main performance properties of caulk - durability, adhesion, and flexibility at low temperatures - are determined by the binder.

Binder (Plastics)

A resin or other material used to hold particles together. The binder is the continuous phase in a reinforced plastic which provides mechanical strength or ensures uniform consistency, solidification, or adhesion to a surface coating. Typical binder materials include resin, glue, gum and casein.

A preliminary agreement, secured by the payment of an earnest money deposit, under which a buyer offers to purchase real estate.

Binder (Real Estate)

Binder (Sculptural)

A substance in paints that causes particles of pigment to adhere to one another and to a support such as oil or acrylic.


Binder (Spyware)

A tool that combines two or more files into a single file, usually for the purpose of hiding one of them. A binder compiles the list of files that you select into one host file, which you can rename. A host file is a simple custom compiled program that will decompress and launch the source programs. When you start the host, the embedded files in it are automatically decompressed and launched.
