Most common material used in fireworks; invented by the Chinese around a millennium ago. It is a low explosive consisting of potassium nitrate (KNO3), sulfur (S), and charcoal (mostly atomic carbon). Used to make sound, propel objects, make fuse, and used in other combinations to make a variety of different effects.
