Board (Backgammon)

1. A backgammon board.
2. One of the four quadrants that make up the playing area: your home board, your outer board, the opponent's home board, and the opponent's outer board.
3. A player's home board. For example: a strong board is a home board with several made points; an n-point board is a home board with n points made; to make your board means to close all the points in your home board.


Board (Bowling)

An individual piece of the lane (total of 40 or sometimes 41) which run its length and are numbered from 1 on the right for right-handers and from 1 on the left for left-handers.

The metal or plastic tray that holds the pre-dealt cards. This term also refers to the whole deal itself ("What was our score on Board #4 ?" or "We played 26 boards against Joe's team.").

Board (Technology)

An electronic module consisting of chips and other electronic components mounted on a flat, rigid substrate on which conductive paths are laid between the components. A personal computer contains a main board, called the motherboard, which usually has the microprocessor on it and slots into which other, smaller boards, called cards or adapters, can be plugged to expand the functionality of the main system, such as to connect to monitors, disk drives, or a network. Board (Wood)

A piece of lumber that is less than 38mm (2" nominal) in smaller dimension used for sheathing, formwork, or for further manufacture into trim and shaped products, such as siding.
