Breakpoint (Investment)

The required dollar-amount investment in mutual fund shares for an investor to become eligible for a reduced initial sales charge. Also called a Front-end Load.


Breakpoint (Microbiology)

Level of an antibacterial drug achievable in serum; organisms inhibited by this level of drug are considered susceptible. In certain situations, clinicians strive to achieve serum or body fluid levels several times that of the breakpoint.


Breakpoint (Microprocessor)

A place in a program where execution is temporarily stopped. Once a breakpoint is reached, analysis of the program can be performed.


Breakpoint (Securities)

A purchase amount that qualifies for a reduced sales charge for mutual funds.


Breakpoint (Technology)

A location in a program at which execution is halted so that a programmer can examine the program's status, the contents of variables, and so on. A breakpoint is set and used within a debugger and is usually implemented by inserting at that point some kind of jump, call, or trap instruction that transfers control to the debugger. Breakpoint (Tradeshow, Exhibitor)

The level at which a discount is given for a volume order.
