CIF (Customs)

An abbreviation used in some international sales contracts, when the selling price includes all "costs, insurance and freight" for the goods sold ("charge in full"), meaning that the seller arranges and pays for all relevant expenses involved in shipping goods from their point of exportation to a given point of importation. In trade statistics, "CIF value" means that all figures for imports or exports are calculated on this basis, regardless of the nature of individual transactions.

CIF (International Economics)

The price of a traded good including transport cost. It stands for "cost, insurance, and freight," but is used only as these initials (usually lower case: c.i.f.). It means that a price includes the various costs, such as transportation and insurance, needed to get a good from one country to another. Contrasts with FOB.


CIF (Logistics)

Abbreviation for "Cost, Insurance, Freight." (Named Port) Same as C&F or CFR except seller also provides insurance to named destination.


CIF (Multimedia)

Common Interface Format or Common Image Format. The Common Interface Format was developed to support video conferencing. It has an active resolution of 352 x 288 and a refresh rate of 29.97 frames per second. The High-Definition Common Image Format (HD-CIF) is used for HDTV production and distribution, having an active resolution of 1920 x 1080 with a frame refresh rate of 23.976, 24, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94, or 60 Hz.
