CPU (Cad)

Central Processing Unit of a computer. The memory and logic area of a
computer that includes processing and execution of instructions.

CPU (Computer Hardware)

Most people think of the CPU, central processing unit, as a computer's brain. It is the device inside a computer that processes data as instructed by the software. Its three primary functions are performing mathematical calculations, logical comparisons, and data manipulation.
More specifically, it is the microchip, or microprocessor inside the CPU that actually does the work. Other elements of a CPU are L1 cache (high speed memory) and sometimes L2 cache. There are three major manufacturers of CPUs-Intel, AMD, and Via (Cyrix).

CPU (Computer Technology)

See "Central Processing Unit".

CPU (DVD)

Central processing unit. The integrated circuit chip that forms the brain of a computer or other electronic device. DVD-Video players contain rudimentary CPUs to provide general control and interactive features.

CPU (DVD and CD)

Central processing unit. The integrated circuit chip that forms the brain of a computer or other electronic device. DVD-Video players contain rudimentary CPUs to provide general control and interactive features.

CPU (Data Recovery)

Stands for Central Processing Unit, a programmable logic device that performs all the instruction, logic, and mathematical processing in a computer.

CPU (Graphics, Hardware)

Central Processing Unit. The central brain of a computer that controls all other parts of the computer.

CPU (Home Audio)

Central processing unit. A computer's "brain"; the portion which reads and executes commands.

CPU (Import Cars)

An acronym for central processing unit.

CPU (Linux, Red Hat)

See central processing unit (CPU).

CPU (Microprocessor)

Central processing unit; a section of a computer responsible for execution of programs. This section manipulates the data, generates control signals, and stores results. In modern computers these functions have been integrated into a single IC. The 8080, 8085, and Z80 are examples of CPUs.

CPU (Music Technology)

Acronym of Central Processing Unit aka microprocessor. See microprocessor for a full definition.

CPU (Newton)

Central Processing Unit. The primary computing part of a digital device. In conjunction with a timing circuit and memory, makes up a computer. Source: TE

CPU (Phamaceutical Industry Acronyms)

Central Processing Unit

CPU (Photography)

Central Processing Unit: A large chip which holds the " brain " of the computer.

CPU (Storage Media)

Acronym for central precessing unit. The microprocessor chip that performs the bulk of data processing in a computer.

CPU (Technology)

Central Processing Unit. The CPU, a highly complex silicon chip, is your computer's brain, taking requests from applications and then processing, or executing actions. The faster your processor, the more operations it can execute per second. The more operations you have per second, the faster things happen in your applications; thus, games play more smoothly, and spreadsheets calculate more quickly.
