This vitamin is famous in the United States for its enrichment in milk to prevent rickets in children (a disease of bone softening, particularly in the legs), but it is also important to adults to prevent possible later weakening of their bones. As well as milk, vitamin D can be found naturally in eggs, butter, margarine and fish oils; and it can also be produced by exposing skin to sunshine.
