Candidate Gene (Genetics and Genealogy)

A gene, located in a chromosome region suspected of being involved in a disease, whose protein product suggests that it could be the disease gene in question. DNA tests used in Genealogy by DNA do not test for any genes, or any other patterns or markers or indicators involved with diseases or inherited physical traits or characteristics.
