Carrier (GPS)

A radio wave having at least one characteristic (e.g., frequency, amplitude, phase) that can be varied from a known reference value by modulation. In the case of GPS there are two transmitted carrier waves: (a) L1 at 1575.42MHz, (b) L2 at 1227.60MHz, modulated by the Navigation Message (both L1 and L2), the P-Code (both L1 and L2) and the C/A-Code (L1).

Carrier (Gaucher Disease)

A person who possesses at least one gene that may contribute to disease in offspring.


Carrier (Gene Testing)

A person who has a recessive mutated gene, together with its normal allele. Carriers do not usually develop disease but can pass the mutated gene on to their children.


Carrier (Genetics)

A person who possesses one copy of a mutant allele that can cause disease when paired with another mutant allele. Carriers do not have the disease they carry but can give the disease to a child if the other parent is also a carrier.

Carrier (Genetics and Genealogy)

An individual who possesses one copy of a mutant allele that causes disease only when two copies are present. Although the carrier (when the gene is recessive) is not affected by the disease, two carriers can produce a child who has the disease. DNA tests used in Genealogy by DNA do not test for any genes, or any other patterns or markers or indicators involved with diseases or inherited physical traits or characteristics.

Carrier (Legislative Assembly)

If, for example, a particular representative or senator is knowledgeable or interested in a bill’s issue, the committee chair, as a courtesy, might ask that member to carry the bill.

A person who has a germ or virus that can cause an STD, including HIV, even though they may have not signs or symptoms. A CARRIER can transmit the germ or virus to someone else through unprotected sex.
