Cash Flow (Accounting)

is earnings before depreciation and amortization. Cash flow is calculated as the difference between cash inflows and outflows. Cash flow can be derived from Operating Profit by adjusting for items which do not affect payments (e.g. depreciation) and items (e.g. changes in working capital) which affect payments but are not recorded in Operating Profit.


Cash Flow (Business)

The actual movement of cash within a business; the analysis of how much cash is needed and when that money is required by a busiĀ­ness within a period of time.

Cash Flow (Commercial Real Estate)

The amount of money the Landlord will receive from the lease, after the deduction of operating expenses, taxes and insurance.


Cash Flow (Dairy Production)

The movement of cash in and out of the business. Having sufficient cash flow to meet current cash obligations in a timely fashion means the business or entity is liquid.


Cash Flow (Economics)

The real dollars passing into and out of the treasury with regard to a financial venture. Note that depreciation expense is not a cash flow as it is an internal accounting transfer and is not paid to anybody.


Cash Flow (Finance)

In investments, cash flow represents earnings before depreciation, amortization, and non-cash charges. Sometimes called cash earnings. Cash flow from operations (called funds from operations by real estate and other investment trusts) is important because it indicates the ability to pay dividends.

Cash Flow (Foreclosure)

The surplus left over out of the rents after paying out all operating expenses and mortgage payments.


Cash Flow (International Business)

Cash generated by the firm and paid to creditors and shareholders. It can be classified as (1) cash flow from operations, (2) cash flow from changes in fixed assets, and (3) cash flow from changes in net working capital.


Cash Flow (Mortgage)

The amount of cash derived over a certain period of time from an income-producing property. The cash flow should be large enough to pay the expenses of the income producing property (mortgage payment, maintenance, utilities, etc).

Cash Flow (Purchasing A Home)

The amount of cash derived over a certain period of time from an income-producing property. The cash flow should be large enough to pay the expenses of the income-producing property (including mortgage payment, maintenance, utilities, etc.)


Cash Flow (Real Estate)

Income generated by a property which is determined by subtracting vacancy allowances and collection costs, operating expenses and debt-servicing costs from the property's scheduled gross income.


Cash Flow (Securities)

The net profits or losses of a business plus noncash expenses such as depreciation, amortization, and depletion.
