Cel

For Cel we have terms and definitions in 4 topics. The topics are Animation, Anime, Entertainment Law and Import Cars.

Cel (Animation)

Short for celluloid; a piece of clear plastic containing the images that are placed over a background to be photographed in succession to form the action of a completed film. The outline of the image, whether hand-inked or Xerox, is applied to the front of the cel. The colors are painted on the back of the cel, with certain colors, notably black, sometimes painted onto the front (for glare reduction). Most cels are "still cels" with only set of peg holes.

Cel (Anime)

A single drawing used in animation. Cels are (usually) hand painted on a piece of transparent acetate and overlaid on a background picture to produce one frame of the animation we see. Cels are popular anime collectors' items, and can be bought from numerous web-based businesses.
