(Noun) A machine that uses a high-speed circular motion (centrifugal force) to separate solids from liquids, or different layers in a liquid (e.g., milk and cream). (Verb) To apply a centrifugal force in order to separate solids from liquids, or different layers in a liquid.


Centrifuge (Carpet)

A machine that employs centrifugal force to remove excess liquid from fabrics. In general, centrigues are also used to separate materials of different densities.

Centrifuge (Dairy Production)

A device for spinning liquids at high speed to separate layers by density.


Centrifuge (Immunology Lab)

An instrument used to spin tubes to separate solutions into different phases (liquid or solid). In this example, the red blood cells and other blood components are "spun out" of the blood, creating two layers in the tube: components below and serum above.


Centrifuge (Psychoactives)

1. A machine which spins a mixture of substances in order to separate components of different densities.


Centrifuge (Sanitation)

A mechanical device in which centrifugal force is used to separate solids from liquids and/or to separate liquids of different densities.
