Certification (Ambulatory Surgery)

A process designed to give collectors all available information about a comic book that has been certified. Also helps dealers sell books because of collectors confidence in their inventory.


Certification (E-Learning)

1) The awarding of a credential acknowledging that an individual has demonstrated proof of a minimum level of knowledge or competence, as defined by a professional standards organization. Professional certification can be used as a screening tool and verification of an individual's skills and knowledge.
2) Program that evaluates products or tools according to predetermined criteria, such as ASTD's E-Learning Courseware Certification (eCC).


Certification (Energy)

Process by which a motor vehicle, motor vehicle engine, or motor vehicle pollution control device satisfies the criteria adopted by the California Air Resources Board (ARB) for the control of specified air contaminants from vehicular sources (Health & Safety Code, Section 39018). Certification constitutes a guarantee by the manufacturer that the engine will meet certain standards at 50,000 miles; if not, it must be replaced or repaired without change.

Certification (Medical Education)

Certification (Teacher Evaluation)

(1) official recognition of advanced status, outstanding performance or a high level of expertise in the profession, usually granted to incumbent teachers who have several years of teaching experience. (2) sometimes certification is used as a synonym for credential or license. See Credentialing, License, NBPTS.


Certification (Technology)

1. The act of awarding a document to demonstrate a computer professional's competence in a particular field. Some hardware and software suppliers, such as Microsoft and Novell, offer certification in the use of their products; other organizations, such as the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals (ICCP) and the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), offer more general certification. 2. The act of awarding a document to demonstrate that a hardware or software product meets some specification, such as being able to work with a certain other hardware or software product. 3. The issuance of a notice that a user or site is trusted for the purpose of security and computer authentication. Often certification is used with Web sites.
