Chassis (Automotive)


A general term that refers to all of the mechanical parts of a car attached to a structural frame. In cars with unitized construction, the chassis comprises everything but the body of the car.


Chassis (Car Aerodynamics)

Refers to all mechanical parts of the car attached to the structural frame.


Chassis (Car Racing)

The welded steel tube frame that makes up the skeleton of a race car. The roll cage, floor pan, wheel wells and welded steel tube frame are all part of the chassis.


Chassis (Import Cars)

The lower structure of a vehicle to which the body and running gear are attached.


Chassis (Indycar Racing)

The central body of the car, including the dirver's compartment. Also referred to as the "tub."


Chassis (Logistics)

A frame with wheels and container locking devices in order to secure the container for movement.


Chassis (NASCAR Racing)

The frame and roll cage of a racecar.


Chassis (RV)

The rectangular steel frame that holds the engine, running gear, and steering and suspension systems and on which the body section of the motorhome is mounted. In type C motorhomes, the chassis includes these components as well as a cab section.

Chassis (Remote Control Cars)

The foundation of an R/C car, this is the main portion of the car that everything attaches to. It can be made from woven graphite, molded plastic composites or aluminum. Normally it is flat with lightening holes cut into it but if molded from plastics it can have bent-up sides and other features.


Chassis (SCRA Sprint Car Racing)

The basic frame/structure of a race car to which all other components are attached.


Chassis (Slot Car Drag Racing)

Core structure or platform of the car, to which all other components are added or mounted


Chassis (Technology)

A metal frame on which electronic components, such as printed circuit boards, fans, and power supplies, are mounted.


Chassis (Tires)


The basic truck frame, including suspension, steering, driving and power components, excluding cab or body.
