Circuit

For Circuit we have terms and definitions in 16 topics. The topics are Audio Technology, Concert Lighting, Construction, Cycling, Electric Power, Energy, Government, Import Cars, Lighting, Music Technology, Robotics, Roller Coaster, Technology, Telco, Transistors and Uk Power.

Circuit (Audio Technology)

A conglomeration of electronic components. More or less interchangeable with "network", but networks are usually small, tidy and passive, and circuits tend to be big, messy and active.

Circuit (Concert Lighting)

An electrical circuit. In theatrical lighting terms a circuit usually refers to the part of a lighting circuit which extends from the dimmer to the lighting instrument. In permanent installations where this is a fixed relationship (dimmer-per-circuit) the terms dimmer and circuit are often used interchangeably.

Circuit (Construction)

The path of electrical flow from a power source through an outlet and back to ground.

Circuit (Cycling)

One trip over a course that is traversed more than once during a road race; the equivalent of a lap in track racing.

Circuit (Electric Power)

A conductor or system of conductors through which an electric current is intended to flow.

Circuit (Energy)

One complete run of a set of electric conductors from a power source to various electrical devices (appliances, lights, etc.) and back to the same power source.

Circuit (Government)

The geographical area covered by a federal court of appeal.

Circuit (Import Cars)

1. A complete path for an electric current from the source, through a resistance, and back to the power source. 2. A race course.

Circuit (Lighting)

Wiring path for electricity, including conductors, load and circuit protection.

Circuit (Music Technology)

When electrical components (eg transistors, resistors, capacitors etc, are connected in a way that utilizes the central electrical / electronic concepts of current (see below), voltage, and resistance to perform some task, this is a circuit.

Circuit (Robotics)

A path for electrons to move. Electricity needs a complete circuit, meaning that there are no breaks in the path and electrons can move freely around the whole path.

Circuit (Roller Coaster)

Used to describe a complete roller coaster track from start to finish.

Circuit (Technology)

Most commonly, this describes an electrical device with a defined path of electrical current that can receive input voltages in a 0 range and a 1 range, and responds with an output voltage that is also in a 0 or 1 range based on the logic inside of the circuit. If the circuit has a 0 range of 0-1 volts, and a 1 range of 4-5 volts, and receives a 0.5 volt input, it will act as if it has received a "0" input. Ranges are necessary because voltages are never exact. When thinking about the logic behind a circuit, it is easiest to think of the inputs and outputs simply as a 0 or 1 instead of a range of voltages. See also integrated circuit.

Circuit (Telco)

A physical path through which electrical signals can pass. It consists of a network of conductors and other components, separated by insulators. Technically this term cannot be applied to fiber optic or other "non-metallic" paths.

See more Telco Terms ...

Circuit (Transistors)

A string of electronic devices such as transistors, resistors, capacitors, and diodes connected by wires so that current can run through it in a complete loop. Circuits can be simple or complex. The wiring connecting a switch to a light to the power source and back to the switch is a simple circuit; opening the switch breaks the circuit and stops the current flow. Even a computer chip is simply an extremely complicated network of circuits.

Circuit (Uk Power)

A conductor or a system of conductors through which electric current flows
