Cladding

Cladding (Architecture)

The lightweight outer skin of a building that does not carry any weight or support the building, but does keep wind and rain out. A term used to describe the siding or materials covering the exterior of a building.


Cladding (Electric Power)

The metal tubes containing oxide fuel pellets in a reactor core.


Cladding (Fiber Optics)

The material surrounding the core of an optical fiber. The cladding has a lower refractive index (faster speed) in order to keep the light in the core. The cladding and core make up an optical waveguide.


Cladding (Import Cars)

The application of a surfacing material to impare corrosion and/or heat resistance.


Cladding (Metal)

A process for covering one metal with another. Usually the surfaces of fairly thick slabs of two metals are brought carefully into contact and are then subjected to co-rolling so that a clad composition results. In some instances a thick electroplate may be deposited before rolling.

Usually an aluminum or vinyl material fixed to the outside faces of wood windows and doors to provide a durable, low-maintenance surface.
