Colostomy (Cancer)

A surgical procedure by which an opening is created between the colon and the outside of the abdomen to allow stool to be emptied into a collection bag.

Colostomy (Colon Cancer)

A surgical procedure used in the treatment of colon cancer when the cancer is located low in the rectum. The cancerous tumor and surrounding tissue are removed and a new opening is created in the abdominal wall for the elimination of waste. During this procedure, a section of colon is attached to the abdominal wall to an artificial opening or stoma. Waste material passes through the stoma into a bag.


Colostomy (Colorectal and Pelvic Floor Diso)

An opening created by a surgeon in the abdominal wall which creates a new path for waste material to leave the body after part of the colon has been removed.


Colostomy (Medical)

A surgical procedure in which some part of the colon is cut and moved to the surface of the abdomen so that feces can be passed into a bag worn outside of the body
