Contractility Or Inotropy (Cardiovascular)

Contractility refers to how strongly the heart contracts. The contractility or inotropic state of the heart is largely controlled by the sympathetic autonomic nervous system and is related to the concentration of intracellular calcium ion in cardica myoctes. Sympathetic tone increases the strength of contraction, as does heart rate. See inotropic effect.
