Cytomegalovirus (Cmv) (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome)

One of the eight known types of human herpesviruses, also known as human herpesvirus 5 (HHV-5). It belongs to the beta subfamily of herpesviruses. CMV can cause severe disease in patients with immune deficiency and in newborns when the virus is transmitted in utero.

A HERPES VIRUS infection that causes serious illness in people with AIDS. CMV can develop in any part of the body but most often appears in the RETINA of the eye, the nervous system, the colon or the esophagus.

CMV is a member of the herpes group of viruses, usually spread through close person to person contact. Can cause neurological development problems if contracted during pregnancy.

One of a group of viruses related to herpes that cause cell enlargement in various internal organs.

CMV is a VIRUS related to HERPES, but it is usually not very harmful to people with health immune systems. Persons with HIV or other illnesses or conditions that weaken the immune system can have serious health complications from CMV.
