DNA (Beauty)

The principle carrier or genetic information in all organisms.

DNA (Biology)

Deoxyribonucleic acid; a double helix nucleotide molecule containing deoxyribose, nitrogenous base, and a phosphate group; contains the genetic information from which amino acids are determined.

DNA (Biotechnology)

The genetic material found in cells is called deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).

DNA (Canadian Law)

Abbreviation for deoxyribonucleic acid. A chromosome molecule which carries genetic coding unique to each person with the only exception of identical twins (that is why it is also called "DNA fingerprinting"). Through laboratory process, DNA can be extracted from body tissue such a strand of hair, semen, blood and matched against DNA discovered at a crime scene or on a victim to scientifically implicate an accused. Can also be used to match DNA between parents in a paternity suit.

DNA (Cancer)

DNA stands for DeoxyriboNucleic Acid. It is made up of long strings of smaller building blocks called nucleotides. There are four different types of nucleotide, each containing a different base. A cell's DNA is found in its nucleus, and carries the genetic information necessary for the cell's organisation and functioning.

DNA (Canine)

A unique genetic makeup. DNA testing is done to prove the actual parentage and/or identity of an animal.

DNA (Dairy Production)

Deoxyribonucleic acid is contained in the nucleus of all cells of the body and carries the genetic code that determines all the characteristics of the organism or animal.

DNA (Dna)

A double-stranded polymer of four different monomers called nucleotides, namely adenosine, cytosine, guanosine, and thymidine. Besides other less significant forces, two forces stabilize the DNA in its natural state - hydrogen bonds between bases, and Van der Waals forces from stacking interactions between base pairs. There are three known forms of DNA, namely A-DNA, B-DNA and Z-DNA.

DNA (Drug Research)

Deoxyribonucleic acid. This molecule carries and transfers the genetic information for all biological organisms.

DNA (Environmental Acronyms)

Deoxyribonucleic acid

DNA (Evolution)

Deoxyribonucleic acid, the molecule that controls inheritance.

DNA (FDA Acronyms)

Deoxyribonucleic Acid

DNA (Female Health Concerns)

Deoxyribonucleic acid, the chemical basis of heredity.

DNA (Food)

So known as oxyribonucleic acid. is is the molecule that carries the genetic information for most living systems. e DNA molecule consists of four bases (adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine) and a sugar-phosphate backbone, arranged in two connected strands to form its characteristic double-helix.

DNA (Food and Health)

Also known as Deoxyribonucleic acid. This is the molecule that carries the genetic information for most living systems. The DNA molecule consists of four bases (adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine) and a sugar-phosphate backbone, arranged in two connected strands to form its characteristic double-helix.

DNA (Fossils)

Anucleic acid that constitutes the genetic material of all cellular organisms and the DNA viruses; DNA replicates and controls through messenger RNA the inheritable characteristics of all organisms. A molecule of DNA is made up of two parallel twisted chains of alternating units of phosphoric acid and deoxyribose, linked by crosspieces of the purine bases and the pyrimidine bases, resulting in a right-handed helical structure, that carries genetic information encoded in the sequence of the bases. Also, DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACID.

DNA (Gene Testing)

The substance of heredity; a large molecule that carries the genetic information that cells need to replicate and to produce proteins.

DNA (Genetics and Food)

Stands for Deoxyribonucleic Acid.

DNA (Gerontology)

An abbreviation for Desoxy Ribonucleic Acid. Double stranded DNA molecules consist of antiparallel (running in opposite directions) chains of nucleotides in which the sugar component is desoxyribose. The chains are arranged in a double helix with the two chains wrapped around each other and bound together so that each "A" is paired with a "T" (A:T pair) and each "G" is paired with a "C" (G:C pair). Thus, when the chains unwind and separate, new identical antiparallel sequences can be copied along their lengths. DNA is thus self-replicating.

DNA (HIV and AIDs)

See DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACID.

DNA (Health)

Deoxyribonucleic acid, the genetic blueprint in all of our cells

DNA (Health and Beauty)

The principle carrier or genetic information in all organisms.

DNA (Horse Health)

Deoxyribonucleic acid, the genetic material of living cellular organisms and of certain viruses.

DNA (Huntingtons Disease)

Abbreviation for deoxyribonucleic acid. The molecule of heredity; composed of many nucleotide subunits arranged in a long chain.

DNA (Lymphoma)

A molecule that carries genetic information.

See more Lymphoma Terms ...

DNA (Medical)

Deoxyribonucleic acid; responsible for passing genetic information in nearly all organisms

DNA (Microbiology)

Deoxyribonucleic acid, the lipoprotein molecule that contains the genetic code for most living things.
DNA "dot-blot" Hybridization (DOT-BLOT), is a rapid technique used to detect the presence of a specific DNA in a specimen. Dots, or spots of the DNA containing sample are placed onto a nitrocellulose membrane and fixed. This membrane is then hybridized to a radioactively labeled DNA segment of known sequence, specific for the pathogenic DNA being tested. If the pathogenic DNA is present in the specimen, complementary DNA sequences present on the membrane will hybridize, or anneal, producing a doublestranded DNA segment with the radioactive label incorporated into the molecule. The presence of radioactivity is detected by autoradiography.

DNA (Mind)

Deoxyribonucleic acid-- the long complex macro-molecule, consisting of two interconnected helical strands, that resides in the nucleus of every living cell, and encodes the genetic instructions for building each organism.

See more Mind Terms ...

DNA (Multiple Sclerosis)

Short for deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA constitutes the chemical basis for genes, the basic units of heredity. See Gene.

DNA (Nutrition)

(Deoxyribonueleic acid) A substance in the cell nucleus that genetically contains the cell's blueprint and determines the type of life form into which a cell will develop; It is the nucleic acid in chromosomes that is part of the chemical basis for hereditary characteristics. This is the genetic material that carries the instructions for most living organisms.
Docosahexenoic acid (DHA) Omega-3 fatty acids found in cold water fish.

DNA (Phamaceutical Industry Acronyms)

Deoxyribonucleic Acid

DNA (Prader-Willi Syndrome)

Deoxyribonucleic acid; the genetic code or chemical blueprint for the cell.
