Delamination

For Delamination we have terms and definitions in 9 topics. The topics are Adhesives and Sealants, Carpet, Construction, Doors, Paper, Pool and Spa, RV, Wood and Wood Flooring.

Delamination (Adhesives and Sealants)

Separation of layers in a laminate because of adhesive failure.

Delamination (Carpet)

Separation of the primary and secondary backing (or cushion) of tufted carpet. In newer carpet, most delamination is caused by improper formulation or application of adhesives, or improper specification carpet or cushion. In older carpet, the cause of delamination usually can be traced to age and oxidation of latex, or simply to excessive traffic (especially that which rolls over the carpet). Localized delamination may be caused by excessive use of dry solvent spotters, or by fuel oil spills. Samples should be included for testing. The current FHA minimum for backing lamination strength is 2.5 pounds.

Delamination (Pool and Spa)

Poorly preparing the surface of a gunite pool, prior to applying a finishing coat, can lead to poor adherence or delamination of the coating. More common in refinished pools, this can lead to calcium nodules and other problems.

Delamination (RV)

In coach construction, a failure of the adhesive bond line, or of one of the individual components, within a laminated assembly (sidewall, roof, floor, etc.). Modern construction adhesives have reduced this problem.

Delamination (Wood)

The separation of layers in laminated wood or plywood because of failure of the adhesive, either within the adhesive itself or at the interface between the adhesive and the wood.
