Denial (Addiction)

The refusal to admit to one's self the truth or reality, i.e. a person who refuses to admit that they have a problem with alcohol or drugs.


Denial (Brain Injury)

Defense mechanism allowing an individual to maintain that a problem has been resolved with an increase in personal competence, although the problem still remains. It protects against physical or emotional conflict or loss. Many rehab professionals over ascribe denial to their patients. Hoping for functional improvement should not be misunderstood as denying
disability.


Denial (Developmental Psychology)

One of Elisabeth Kubler-Ross's stages of dying, in which the dying refuse to acknowledge their inevitable death, perhaps believing a mistake has been made.

A defense mechanism in which a feeling or wish is blocked by the person because the conscious admission of the thought or feeling would be too painful.

Denial (Mental Health)

A single false belief with multiple elaborations or a group of false beliefs that the person relates to a single event or theme. This event is believed to have caused every problem in life that the person experiences.


Denial (Problem Teenagers)

A defense mechanism in which a feeling or wish is blocked by the person because the conscious admission of the thought or feeling would be too painful.
