Director (Acting and Modeling)

Someone who supervises the actors and directs the action in the production of a show or project.


Director (Animation)

Supervisor of the timing, animation, sound, music, and general processing of a picture.


Director (Drama)

The person who is responsible for the overall interpretation of a dramatic work, bringing all the elements together to create a unified production

Director (Entertainment)

The principal creative artist on a movie set. A director is usually (but not always) the driving artistic source behind the filming process, and communicates to actors the way that he/she would like a particular scene played. A director's duties might also include casting, script editing, shot selection, shot composition, and editing. Typically, a director has complete artistic control over all aspects of the movie, but it is not uncommon for the director to be bound by agreements with either a producer or a studio. In some large productions, a director will delegate less important scenes to a second unit.


Director (Entertainment Industry)

Charged with staging a play or musical, who coordinates all onstage aspects of the production, including the performances of the actor. In television and film production, this person influences the actions of actors and action sequences during filming, and supervises editing afterward.


Director (Fencing)

The referee of a match.

Director (Film)

During production, works closely with the actors to make sure they convey the message the story requires through different methods such as facial expression or tone of voice. Also works with the Director of Photography to see what a particular shot will look like and if it is appropriate to where the story is going.

Director (Frauds and Scams)

An individual elected by corporate shareholders to serve on that corporation's Board of Directors. The Board of Directors decide when dividends will be paid, appoint the corporation's president, vice president and all other officers.


Director (Ham Radio)

An element in front of the driven element in a Yagi or Quad and some other directional antennas.
