Disability (Accident Compensation)


A measurable loss or limitation in function that results from either a physical or mental injury or impairment.


Disability (Brain Injury)

The loss, absence or impairment of physical or mental fitness that can be seen or measured.
DISCHARGE PLANNING - preparation for life after rehab, including insurance and legal issues, home adaptation, and community support issues.
DISCRIMINATION, SENSORY - a process requiring differentiation of two or more stimuli.


Disability (Employee Benefits)

A condition, such as sickness or injury, that results in an insured person being unable to perform his or her normal job duties.


Disability (Health)

The inability to perform an activity in a normal way as a result of an impairment, such as not being able to walk due to a weakness or paralysis in a leg.

Disability (Health Care)

As defined by the World Health Organization, a disability (resulting from an impairment) is a restriction or lack of ability to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being.


Disability (Legal, Accident Compensation)

A measurable loss or limitation in function that results from either a physical or mental injury or impairment.


Disability (Organizational Capacity)

Disability (Personal Injury Law)

In the legal sense, lack of legal capacity to perform some act. Used in a physical sense in connection with workers' compensation acts and is a composite of (a) actual incapacity to perform employment tasks and the wage loss resulting therefrom and (b) physical bodily impairment which may or may not be incapacitating.


Disability (Pharmaceutical)

An observable mental or physical loss or impairment which is measurable and which may be temporary or permanent. If it is serious enough to affect a person's normal function, it is described as a handicap.


Disability (Physical Therapy)

The inability to perform an activity in a normal way as a result of an impairment, such as not being able to walk due to a weakness or paralysis in a leg.


Disability (Real Estate)

A physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, such as walking, seeing, learning and working. Disability includes a record of such impairment or the fact of being regarded as having such impairment. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) protects individuals with disabilities from various forms of discrimination in employment, public services, transportation, public accommodations and telecommunication services. A person abusing illegal drugs or alcohol is not covered, but a person who is rehabilitated in these areas may be protected under ADA. (See handicap)

A physical or mental impairment that interferes with or prevents "normal" achievement in a particular function.


Disability (Womens Health)

A physical or mental impairment that interferes with or prevents "normal" achievement in a particular function.
