Diversity (Assets Based Community Developme)

The many differences that make up communities and individuals - economics, culture, race, background, size of families, part of the country or other countries where born, talents/skills, natural environment, etc.


Diversity (Citizenship)

A category of immigrants replacing the earlier categories for nationals of underrepresented countries and countries adversely "affected" by the Immigration and Nationality Act Amendments of 1965 (P.L. 89-236). The annual limit on diversity immigration was 40,000 during fiscal years 1992-94, under a transitional diversity program, and 55,000 beginning in fiscal year 1995, under a permanent diversity program.

Diversity (Intergroup)

The wide variety of shared and different personal and group characteristics among human beings.


Diversity (Natural Gas)

A characteristic of the variety of gas loads whereby individual maximum demands usually occur at different times. Therefore, the maximum coincident load of a group of individual loads is less than the sum of the individual maximum loads. Diversity among customers' loads results in a diversity among the loads of distribution mains and regulators as well as between entire systems. Compare LOAD DIVERSITY.

Diversity (Youth Scout Groups)

The state of being different or diverse. When used to describe people and population groups, diversity encompasses such factors as age, gender, race, ethnicity, ability, and religion, as well as education, professional background, and marital and parental status. Diversity indicates variety but is not synonymous with pluralism, which is a process or system of actions. The term should not be used to identify people of color. When referring to a specific group, use its racial, ethnic, or cultural name instead.
