Drawing (Carpet)

1. Stretching synthetic fiber immediately after extrusion in order to align and strengthen polymer molecules. It is during drawing that fibers are oriented so that they will have greater tensile strength. 2. Elongation of silver (combed staple fiber strands) in the yarn spinning process, prior to being twisted into yarn singles. 3. The process of attenuating or increasing the length per unit weight of laps, slivers, slubbings, and rovings. 4. The hot or cold stretching of continuous filament yarn or tow to align and arrange the crystalline structure of the molecules to achieve improved tensile properties.

Drawing (Fine Art)

Pencil, pen, ink, charcoal or other similar mediums on paper or other support, tending toward a linear quality rather than mass, and also with a tendency toward black-and-white, rather than color (one exception being pastel).

Drawing (Metal)

(1) Forming recessed parts by forcing the plastic flow of metal in dies. (2) Reducing the cross section of wire or tube by pulling it through a die. (3) A misnomer for tempering.

Drawing (Patent)

One or more specially prepared figures filed as a part of a patent application to explain and describe the invention. Drawings (or illustrations) are more commonly found with inventions for mechanical or electrical devices. As a rule, chemical patents and biotechnology patents will include chemical formulae drawings or genetic code in the description of the invention and/or in the examples.

Drawing (Steel)

Forming recessed parts by forcing the plastic flow of metal in dies.

Drawing (Wire)

In the manufacture of wire, pulling the metal through a die or series of dies for reduction of diameter to specified size.
